Flower Love = Peonies

If I’m been honest with you, I’m not the biggest flower person but show me a wedding filled with peonies and I go a little bit weak at the knees! I absolutely love them!

Peony flowers exude vintage romance and have an air of British country charm to them and look gorgeous used in a bridal bouquet, centrepieces or other wedding décor.

Peonies are known as the flower of riches and honour and are an omen of good fortune, used to symbolise love, affection and a happy marriage and it was thought that they would protect the bearer from curses and demonic possession. No wonder they are becoming ever more popular in weddings!

If you’re umm’ing and ahh’ing about using peonies in your wedding and need a little bit of persuasion, take a peek below I’m sure this might help you make your mind up!

What are your dream flowers? Are you having or had peonies? I’d love to hear all your thoughts and plans for any future weddings.

Lyric Love

I have always loved Alanis Morissette, especially the Jagged Little Pill album, so I thought it was about time she made an appearance on Miss HR! Enjoy….

I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it

You treat me like I’m a princess
I’m not used to liking that
You ask how my day was

You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault

Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You’re so much braver than I gave you credit for
That’s not lip service

You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault

You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience

You’re the best listener that I’ve ever met
You’re my best friend
Best friend with benefits
What took me so long

I’ve never felt this healthy before
I’ve never wanted something rational
I am aware now
I am aware now

You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault

Long time no see!

First of all I would just like to apologise for the massive lack of posts in recent weeks, ever since I came back from Benidorm I just seem to have lacked all motivation for anything, apart from the urge to go back there! I think I more or less have it out of my system now, so normal service will now be resuming!

So seen as though it’s my first blogging day back, I just thought I would share with you a few sneaky pics of my hen holiday to Benidorm. We all had the most amazing time and didn’t want to come home but I will fill you all in on the details in a further post….

Hope you’ve all had a brilliant couple of weeks and enjoyed the bits of nice weather that we’ve had.

Benidorm Countdown – Shoe Dilemma

Today I was hoping to share with you a sneak preview of my “shit” shoes for our first night in Benidorm, but unfortunately, due to not having the correct materials let’s say, I haven’t finished them yet! I was hoping to get them done last night but it just wasn’t to be so now I have to try and finish them tonight, along with everything else such as packing!!

Seen as though I can’t show you my shoes now until I come back, I’ll try my best to describe them to you! Like I said in my last Benidorm post, they are just a pair of plain white plimsolls that we can decorate how we like. So I headed down to my local Boyes and Poundland and stocked up on shoe decorating goodies! At the moment, the shoes look a little bit like this…..The area from the laces down to the toes are covered in lime green diamante jewels, the laces have been replaced with mismatched ribbons – one bright pink polka dot, the other a glittery lilac colour, and Benidorm has been written in rainbow colours across both heels. Beautiful I know….

Any who, the main part of my decoration is the bit I have struggled with; I was hoping to attach some pictures that I have printed off and laminated to the sides of the shoes but so far, this hasn’t been very easy! First of all, I tried sewing them but this was just too painful on my fingers and the thread kept on snapping. Then I tried just using normal PVA glue, using a peg to hold them in place but again this didn’t work either. At this point, I was starting to worry a little bit….I didn’t have any back up plans in case this one failed. So tonight, the night before we are setting off to go, I am paying B&Q a visit and going to get some industrial strength glue and fingers crossed this will hopefully hold everything in place! If it doesn’t, then who knows what I’ll do….any suggestions would be VERY welcome!

I can’t wait to be lying around this pool enjoying the warm Spanish sunshine; the weather is currently looking a nice healthy 25 degrees, just what I like. So if anyone has any favourite places they like to go in Benidorm or any favourite hen do past times let me know? Anything that can add to the experience can only be a good thing!

Whinstone View Wedding Fayre

Well Whinstone Views first wedding fayre has been and gone and hopefully they can view it as a success, there was certainly a bustle and excitement about the place while we were there.

The fayre was held in Whinstone Views new marquee which looks lovely set amongst their gorgeous grounds and inside was filled with stalls showcasing their goodies.

Destiny Bridal of Stokesley were showcasing some of their Bridal designs in the fayre’s catwalk, which I think was on every half hour so if you didn’t catch the first one you weren’t going to miss out. Singer and guitarist Val Boyers provided beautiful background music for the shows, I think Val would make a gorgeous addition to any wedding either playing at your ceremony or even playing in the background at your wedding breakfast.

Amongst the stalls there were a few familiar faces from previous wedding fayres such as Truly Beautiful of Guisborough, Sugarcraft of Middlesbrough, Sheer Elegance Chair Covers and Neesams Photography, but there were also a handful of new stalls such as The Fine and Funky Events Company, illustrator and designer Nicholas James Langley and Elegant Chair Covers.

The Fine and Funky Events Company caught my eye straightaway with a tablescape full of vintage crockery, peonies, vintage books and other vintage finds, along with gorgeous stationary from Purple Peacock. Fine and Funky are an events company that can be hired to help you plan or style any part of your wedding from full day coordination to helping you find a supplier that’s just right for you. They also offer a hiring service where you can hire their venue accessories, props and giant garden games. Take a look at their website, there isn’t much that Fine and Funky Events don’t offer!

Nicholas James Langley also caught my eye, as he offered bespoke artwork for your wedding day which Nicholas said could either be printed as a normal piece of art such as on a canvas or in a frame, or you could have your designs printed on to plates or bowls, which would make a brilliant talking point at your wedding!

One part of the day that I was particularly looking forward to was having a sneaky peak around Whinstone Views gorgeous lodges, which I’ve been dying to stay in for ages! And I tell you something, they did not disappoint! All lodges come with their own hot tub on the balcony of the lodge overlooking the grounds and all have a different colour theme. There are 3 double room lodges; Bazare, Zoffony and Roma (Zoffony been my favourite!) and 2 self catering lodges that can cater for up to four people; Kuki and Fleurie. The lodges are ideal for anyone wanting to stay over (especially the Bridal party) and they would definitely make a great Bridal suite for you to enjoy with your new husband/wife.

I will definitely be keeping Whinstone View in mind for whenever the boyfriend decides to pop the question, if he ever does!! And I definitely recommend Whinstone View to any Bride-to-be out there who is trying to decide on a venue for their upcoming wedding.

Did you make Whinstone Views first wedding fayre this weekend? If so, what did you think of it? Is it somewhere you’d like to get married? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Local Weekend Happenings

I’m a little bit excited about this weekend, for starts its Saltburn Farmers Market on Saturday which I always enjoy going to anyway but also, on Sunday its Whinstone Views first wedding fayre!

For those that don’t know, Whinstone View is situated in Great Ayton and locally it’s famous for its luxury log cabins and gorgeous food in their bistro. Up until now, you could only use the venues restaurant and upstairs function room, but luckily for all you Brides-to-be out there, Whinstone View have now got themselves a marquee which is set amongst their stunning grounds. And from September this year, they will have their own license so that not only can you have your reception there, but you can also have your civil wedding there, either in their downstairs area or outside on their top terrace. Any who, enough from me on Whinstone View otherwise you won’t go to the fayre yourself and I won’t have anything to tell you about next week in my review!

I love going to Saltburn Farmers Market and I recommend it to anyone, especially those who are on the lookout for locally sourced produce and companies for their weddings. One stall that is bound to get Brides-to-be licking their lips is that of Dragonfly Bakery. For those that don’t know, Dragonfly Bakery is a home-based bakery in Saltburn, who make the most delicious cupcakes, which don’t hang around for too long at the Farmers Market! Dragonfly Bakery can cater for all your wedding cake needs and they have also recently started doing vintage tea parties, which would make a great alternative hen party. Again, that’s enough! Get yourself to Saltburn Farmers Market on Saturday and try them for yourself!

Well I hope if you do make it to either of these events, you enjoy yourself and look out for me, I’ll be the one shoving my business cards on to anyone I can! And look out for my review of Whinstone Views first wedding fayre sometime next week.

Lyric Love

This weeks lyric love is a pretty long one but bare with it, it’s worth it! Let me know what you think…..

I like you and I know why.
I like you because you are a good person to like.
I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it’s special
And you remember it a long, long time.
You say, “Remember when you told me something special?”
And both of us remember.

When I think something is important
you think it’s important too
We have good ideas
When I say something funny, you laugh
I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too
Hah-hah!

I like you because you know where I’m ticklish
And you don’t tickle me there except just a little tiny bit sometimes
But if you do, then I know where to tickle you too.

You know how to be silly
That’s why I like you
Boy are you ever silly
I never met anybody sillier than me till I met you
I like you because you know when it’s time to stop being silly
Maybe day after tomorrow
Maybe never
Too late, it’s a quarter past silly!

Sometimes we don’t say a word
We snurkle under fences
We spy secret places
If I am a goofus on the roofus hollering my head off
You are one too
If I pretend I am drowning, you pretend you are saving me
If I am getting ready to pop a paper bag,
then you are getting ready to jump
HOORAY!

That’s because you really like me
You really like me, don’t you?
And I really like you back
And you like me back and I like you back
And that’s the way we keep on going every day.

If you go away, then I go away too
or if I stay home, you send me a postcard
You don’t just say “Well see you around sometime, bye”
I like you a lot because of that
If I go away, I send you a postcard too
And I like you because if we go away together
And if we are in Grand Central Station
And if I get lost
Then you are the one that is yelling for me.

And I like you because when I am feeling sad
You don’t always cheer me up right away
Sometimes it is better to be sad
You can’t stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute
You want to think about things
It takes time
I like you because if I am mad at you
Then you are mad at me too
It’s awful when the other person isn’t
They are so nice and hoo-hoo you could just about punch them in the nose.

I like you because if I think I am going to throw up
then you are really sorry
You don’t just pretend you are busy looking at the birdies and all that
You say, maybe it was something you ate
You say, the same thing happened to me one time
And the same thing did.

If you find two four-leaf clovers, you give me one
If I find four, I give you two
If we only find three, we keep on looking
Sometimes we have good luck, and sometimes we don’t
If I break my arm, and if you break your arm too
Then it’s fun to have a broken arm
I tell you about mine, you tell me about yours
We are both sorry
We write our names and draw pictures
We show everybody and they wish they had a broken arm too.

I like you because I don’t know why but
Everything that happens is nicer with you
I can’t remember when I didn’t like you
It must have been lonesome then
I like you because because because
I forget why I like you but I do.

So many reasons
On the 4th of July I like you because it’s the 4th of July
On the fifth of July, I like you too
If you and I had some drums and some horns and some horses
If we had some hats and some flags and some fire engines
We could be a HOLIDAY
We could be a CELEBRATION
We could be a WHOLE PARADE

See what I mean?
Even if it was the 999th of July
Even if it was August
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November
Even if it was no place particular in January
I would go on choosing you
And you would go on choosing me
Over and over again.

That’s how it would happen every time
I don’t know why
I guess I don’t know why I really like you
Why do I like you
I guess I just like you
I guess I just like you because I like you.
